My Aunt Annie passed away peacefully this morning to be with her Savior. She has been battling a heart condition for quite a while now, and the Lord saw fit to take her home. I have always been close to her, as she was a part of my life even as a small child. I still remember the summer she came to stay with my brother and I and the fun times we had. Caleb never got the privilege to meet her, but I show him this picture of her and he points and says "Annie" and gives her a kiss. He would have loved her.
My family and I did have a chance to visit her in Colorado a little over a month ago during some of her sickest times. That time with her I will always carry with me and cherish. Thank you Lord for that oppurtunity. My last real memory of her was during our last visit, when my brother and I sat at her bedside and read the Bible with her. What a sweet memory to hold on to.
She also loved pigs. She let me pick out the pig I liked best from her curio cabinet, so that I would have something to remember her by.
Aunt Annie - Thank you for your love, your many stories of life and wisdom, your passion for the Lord and his Word. You are now safe in the arms of Jesus. You have met your Creator and now you are full of joy and peace. We love you and miss you more than you know.
Your blog caught my eye this morning because of the reference to Fanny Crosby's hymn, "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." (It was written 142 years ago this very day. You can see more on my daily blog on hymn history, Wordwise Hymns.)
ReplyDeleteActually, I believe we miss the point Fanny was making when we limit the song to safety in heaven. Yes, it's true, every Christian will be finally and forever safe in the presence of the Lord. But Fanny Crosby was talking about the fact that we are protected and cherished in the arms of the Lord NOW, in anticipation of heaven. Nothing can touch the believer's life that is not permitted by a wise and loving Father. That's the point
