Today was the big day for sweet little Luke. Here's a little bit about how his journey was today.
6am - arrive at Duke
6:30am - preop
He was a happy camper. He was smiling at the nurses and being just too darn cute.
7:30 am - Luke was taken back to the OR and we headed to the waiting room.
They had a difficult time getting IVs, so his surgery didn't start until 9:10am.
10:30 am- We met with the surgeons and were told the great news that everything went well. You'll notice he has an IV on his foot, one on his right hand, and then an A line on his left. Thankfully, he was extubated without any issues.
Here's a good shot of both of the incisions.
The first part of the afternoon went well. Then we started to see some swelling, mainly on the left side and it was very concerning since it wasn't really noticeable any where else. He was looking very pale so they checked his blood count pretty quickly. We soon found out his blood count dropped to a very low level and he needed to be transfused with blood ASAP. We also were concerned that he was not making any urine despite the fact that he had so much fluid through his IV today. So we started praying. And more praying.
Slowly we noticed the swelling started to decrease and his color began to return while the blood was infusing. He tolerated the blood very well and we were so thankful to see some rosey cheeks! Shortly after 8pm we found out his blood count returned to normal and his diaper was wet! Such a blessing and an answer to prayer!!!
Luke is starting to eat now and is holding down fluids. He's been in a lot of pain, so Morphine has been helping him rest and be calm. Please pray for his night and that he would rest well. Thank you so much for all of your calls, texts, hugs, and prayers. We couldn't do this without your support and our loving Savior!
